Looking into the MID-Day, I saw a 2.5 stars adjacent to Well done abba... Shyam Benegal and 2.5 stars.. No it just didn't go.. Then a 10 sec advertisement on 'Channel V' confirmed my thought process... I had to go for it... My jijaji and my sis were convinced in the next half and hour and so were the tickets at sterling.. All left was to see was the superb performance of a man so talented, capable of changing the face on Indian Cinema...
Yes, with a double roll in the movie, Boman Irani probably has shown what acting is all about.. something to learn for the commercial six pack cinema... this is a one in a lifetime role that even Pankaj Kapoor would crave to perform... The adaptation of the characters, The nitty gritties that change the whole outlook of the movie were performed with such ease that the comfort level of the audience just rises to another level.. What ever I write here.. is just insufficient to capture the essence of the role performed.. even so as there were two surprisingly different ones in the same movie...
The amazing performance of Boman Sir, was complemented by the uniqueness in the direction of Shyam Benegal. The Muslim culture in India, with the drawbacks mainly due to the lack of education and were not the theme of the movie at all.. But Only Benegal could embed it in such a manner as to not create any controversy...
It also creates a brand for the telegu (language and culture both) making it not only more individualistic and different by not prototyping it as South Indian, but also stylish and connectible...
Reveling any more would be spoiling the movie for anyone who is reading this.. but all in all a must watch for someone who loves Parallel cinema... Would take 1 star away for the added commercialization in the last 10 mins of the movie...
Personal Rating - 4 stars
Ps: -
1. Anyone who doesn't enjoys six pack cinema over parallel cinema, this might be a risk...
2. The pathetic commercialization of the critics giving rating to movies is a bane on Indain Cinema. True hard work like this gets 2.5 starts.. MNIK gets a 5... I am confident that any true critic would realize the difference and rate vica- versa.. People looking for ratings to go for movies should realize the fall of the authenticity of the critics in the industry and take their decisions accordingly...
